Time Management 8 of 10

Time Management
8 of 10
Masters the moments and you may be a real pro when it comes to juggling the many demands on your time —classes, homework and activities— with some family help. College gives you an even bigger chance to sharpen your time management skills by doing it all on your own. And that’s a good thing since most jobs require multitasking. You might need to take care of current clients while attracting new ones, respond to e-mails while working on major presentations, or order tomorrow’s produce while planning next week’s menu.
Someone said, “Wherever you are, be there.”  Focus on the present moment and give it all your attention. Don’t let your mind drift and wander here and there when you need to be thinking and concentrating on the moment at hand. You can’t go back and recapture this moment, so make the most of it while it NOW. Master the present and you will master the future. Work smart by mastering the present moment.

Student Success Statement #77

Student Success Statement
“Gold medals don’t make champions…hard work does.”
-Anon
Reflection:
I think that this statement is trying to say that the champions that win gold medals don’t just compete and get gold medals, the champions that compete try really hard to get gold medals and they do the best that they can to train for their big game. For example, when Olympians compete they train really hard and do the best that they can to win a gold medal.

The Power of Study Groups Part 4

The Power of Study Groups
Part 4
Getting the Most Out of a Session
Here are some tips to help your group get the most out of each study session:
·       Decide what you’re going to do in advance.
·       Prepare for the session, so you can make the most of your time together.
·       Take turns teaching, to reinforce your knowledge.
·       Stick to the session topic.
By supplementing your individual study with a study group, you can reinforce what you’ve learned, deepen your understanding of complex concepts, and maybe even make a few new friends. Remember that a friend is a person who encourages you to do your best to achieve on a high level, one who pushes you to try a little harder and be a little better. If someone pulls you down the wrong trails of life, then those people are not friends, (they are actually your enemies), and you must avoid the at all costs. Whoever said learning can’t be fun? Learning is enjoyable and exciting when you study with others.

The Power of Study Groups Part 3

The Power of Study Groups
Part 3
Guidelines for Getting a Group Together
Here are some guidelines for creating and running a study group:
How many? Create a group for four to six people. In a large group, it’s easy for someone to get left out and smaller groups can too easily get off track.

Who? Pick classmates who seem to share your interest in doing well academically. Look for people who stay alert in class, take notes, ask questions and respond to their teacher’s questions. Include someone who understands the material better than you and can explain the concepts to someone who doesn’t understand it as well, to whom you can explain the material.

Where? Hold study group sessions in a place that is free of distractions and that has room to spread out books and notes.

How long? Meet for no more than two or three hours at a time. Having a time limit helps the group focus. If you know you only have an hour, you’re most likely to stay on task.

When? Try to meet regularly, on the same day and time each week. Treating the study sessions as you would other activities helps you to keep a schedule and ensures that everyone attends.

7 Habits if Highly Successful Teens Habit 6

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 6: Synergize
Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn't have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teens to value difference and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living the other habits, especially at thinking Win-Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergize is like learning to form V formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and farther you’ll go. Synergy doesn't just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is this: Learn to celebrate differences.
A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, it’s all of them together that make up the “sound.” Each band member brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better than each could alone. No instrument is more important than another, just different.

Profile of a Successful Student part 2

Profile of a Successful Student part 2
Work Together. There are a number of ways that you can ensure you get the most out of your educational experience. First, participate fully. Engage regularly in the discussions and be willing to share your personal, professional and educational experiences. You can get to know your classmates through the dialogue that is created in a course environment--sometimes even better than in a face-to-face class. And the same goes for your instructor. Be sure to contact your professor--especially if you are having problems. He/she is still your instructor and will be there to guide and assist you as needed.

Work Together Part 3

Work Together Part 3
Here are my final words of wisdom for students who want to get better grades in college: A big thing that not many will say is to ask for help if you needed it. It’s not a bad thing to not understand, it’s a bad thing if you don’t do anything about it. Plan you time out so you are completing everything that needs to get done and leave time to double check. Write things down and have a good time management skills. Ask for help is probably the biggest thing I can say though. If you don’t understand, go to office hours or find a classmate that understands and is willing to help you. If you try hard, it will come to you. I find myself thinking that I would have to try harder to fail than I try to succeed. It is something that is within me to succeed. If that is not who you are, then hopefully things that I have done can show you that success is something that is amazing to find! Good luck!

Work Together Part 2

Work Together Part 2
English, math, foreign language tips: For math, all I can say is do the problems assigned. It is the only way to practice and that is really all it is for math. It’s the same for chemistry; if you do the practice problems you will understand the material so much better because those subjects are not just memorization like history, you need to be able what you have learned in practical situations. As for English, I am no longer taking it, but I would say to leave yourself plenty of time to write essays and papers. They take time to get all the information out of your head and onto the page, so don’t leave them until the last second.

Work Together Part 1

Work Together Part 1
I can and will work as part of the team as long as everyone in the team is willing to do his work. I don’t like having to pick up the slack, but I will if I know that my grade will be harmed otherwise. My greatest academic success was in my first semester when I had to write a 10-12 page research paper. It was the longest paper I had ever been assigned and I was a little scared. Also, it was the first paper where they were like, here you go, just write about something. I had to argue in favor of or against something, but it could be anything from the sky is blue to hypnotism. I wrote mine on hypnotism. I worked on this paper for weeks and weeks. Every night I would be doing research or writing. I put so much effort into this paper. It ended up being just under 12 pages but it was full on information. I turned it in and when I got it back a week or so later, I had received the first A+ of my college career. All my hard work paid off because I got the grade I deserved. I was really happy and proud of myself.
